I was born in New Haven Connecticut. When I was two years old my family moved south to the Atlanta area, which is still my home base.

You could say my elder brother Robert and I were born into the world of motor racing as both my grandfather and father raced in their younger days; also my parents have owned their own race team – Essex Racing – for nearly 30 years. My brother is also involved in the sport as an engineer for a leading Indy Racing League team.

Although my family has always been very supportive of my desire to race, in my formative years they would never let racing come before my education. When I had the offer to go to Italy to race go karts in my junior high school year, they would only let me go on the basis I finished my high school education via an internet home schooling program, which would allow me to go to college when I returned to the States.

When I returned from Italy, having had two fantastic years racing all over Europe, I enrolled at the University of Georgia and even though I was racing fulltime in the American LeMans series I was able to graduate Cum Laude with a BBA in Economics and a minor in Italian – my two years in Italy really paid off!!

When I am not actually racing I work as an instructor at a number of racing schools, including the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama, in addition to private coaching.
